November is one of those months when San Antonio really starts to feel like a different city. The summer heat has finally backed off, outdoor events are a little more enjoyable, and the holiday season is just beginning to make its way into town. Between cultural festivals, food events, live entertainment, and the first Christmas lights of the year, there are plenty of reasons to get out of the house.

Whether you've lived here for years, recently moved to San Antonio, or are just visiting for the weekend, I've rounded up some events worth putting on your calendar. Some are annual favorites, while others are making their San Antonio debut this year.

Celebrate San Antonio's Culture and Community

Diwali San Antonio | November 7

San Antonio's annual Diwali celebration returns on November 7, bringing music, dancing, traditional Indian food, colorful decorations, and lights to the downtown area around Hemisfair and the Arneson River Theatre.

Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. San Antonio's celebration brings those traditions to life through performances and cultural experiences, with fireworks adding to the festivities.

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a celebration that might be new to you without having to leave the city.

Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival | November 14

If you enjoy art but aren't necessarily the type to spend an afternoon quietly walking through a museum, Luminaria might be right up your alley.

On November 14, downtown Houston Street becomes an outdoor arts experience featuring live music, dance, film, poetry, digital installations, and visual art. The festival runs from 6 PM to midnight, and admission is free.

What makes Luminaria interesting is the variety. You can spend the evening wandering from one installation to another, listening to performances, and discovering work from different artists. It's an easy way to enjoy downtown while experiencing something beyond the usual dinner plans.

Yanaguana Indian Arts Festival | November 14

The Briscoe Western Art Museum will host the Yanaguana Indian Arts Festival on November 14, celebrating the traditions, history, and artistic contributions of Native American communities.

The free event includes cultural performances, art demonstrations, storytelling, and opportunities to learn about Indigenous heritage. Its name honors the Payaya people, who historically lived along the San Antonio River.

For anyone interested in understanding more about the people and cultures that shaped this region, this is a meaningful event to experience.

Food Festivals Worth Checking Out

Smoke & Fire BBQ Fest | November 14

There's no shortage of good barbecue in San Antonio, but getting several talented pitmasters together in one place makes for a pretty tempting Saturday.

Smoke & Fire BBQ Fest returns to Pullman Market on November 14, bringing together barbecue talent, open-fire cooking, craft beverages, live music, and entertainment.

It's a great option for a date night or an outing with friends, especially if you're the person who's always looking for another barbecue spot to try.

Panda Fest | November 21–22

Panda Fest is making its San Antonio debut at Civic Park in Hemisfair on November 21 and 22.

The festival is expected to feature more than 70 food vendors and over 150 dishes representing different Asian cuisines. Along with all the food, visitors can enjoy cultural performances, artisan merchandise, and panda-themed activities.

General admission is listed at $14, with free admission for children under six. If you like trying a little bit of everything instead of committing to one restaurant, this is definitely one to consider.

The Holiday Season Starts Early in San Antonio

Zoo Lights | Beginning November 14

The San Antonio Zoo is bringing back Zoo Lights beginning November 14, and it's one of those seasonal outings that can become a yearly tradition.

The zoo transforms after dark with illuminated displays, animal-themed lanterns, holiday decorations, and festive activities. Visitors can stroll through the displays, enjoy seasonal treats, and take in the atmosphere without needing to travel far from home.

Zoo Lights is scheduled through January 3, 2027, and is included with regular zoo admission.

Illuminate at the San Antonio Botanical Garden | Beginning November 20

If you prefer a quieter holiday outing, Illuminate at the San Antonio Botanical Garden might be a better fit.

Beginning November 20, the garden will feature an illuminated nighttime experience with large-scale lanterns, colorful light installations, and walking paths throughout the grounds.

The event runs through January 10, 2027, with timed evening entry. Tickets are required, so I would recommend planning ahead rather than assuming you can purchase admission at the gate.

Ford Holiday River Parade | November 27

If there's one November event that really announces the arrival of the holidays in San Antonio, it's the Ford Holiday River Parade.

The 45th annual parade takes place Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. Illuminated floats, festive performances, and the lighting of 200,000 holiday lights along the River Walk make this one of the city's signature celebrations.

The parade begins at 6 PM near the Tobin Center. Reserved seating is available for purchase, but there is also a designated free viewing area between Pecan Street and Richmond Avenue.

If you want a good view without paying for reserved seats, I would plan to arrive early. Downtown gets busy during major events, and finding parking at the last minute can quickly take the fun out of the evening.

Catch a Concert or Live Performance

November also has some good options for anyone who would rather spend an evening enjoying live entertainment.

Country singer Sara Evans performs at Stable Hall on November 13, while the Jonas Brothers take the stage at Frost Bank Center on November 14. If musical theater is more your style, Beetlejuice the Musical comes to the Majestic Theatre November 13–15.

Later in the month, Buena Vista Social Club is scheduled at the Majestic Theatre from November 24–29, giving theater lovers another option over Thanksgiving week.

These are the kinds of events I would book ahead of time, particularly if you're trying to coordinate a group outing or want specific seats.

Enjoy the Cooler Weather Without Spending Much

Not every November outing needs a ticket or a packed event schedule. One of the best parts of this time of year is simply being able to spend more time outside.

The Japanese Tea Garden is a great option for a relaxed afternoon. With its winding paths, ponds, and landscaped gardens, it's an easy place to slow down and enjoy some fresh air. Admission is free, which makes it even better.

You could also spend an afternoon exploring Historic Market Square, browsing local shops, enjoying something from a bakery, or visiting the nearby Centro de Artes Gallery.

And sometimes, a walk along the River Walk or an afternoon exploring one of San Antonio's parks is enough. November gives us a chance to enjoy those everyday places without quite so much of the summer heat.

Make the Most of November in San Antonio

One thing I love about San Antonio is how much variety there is in the community. You can spend one weekend enjoying a cultural festival, the next trying new food, and another walking beneath Christmas lights downtown. You don't have to spend a fortune or travel out of town to find something worth doing.

If you're new to San Antonio, I especially encourage you to explore beyond the places you already know. And if you've lived here for years, maybe this is the month to finally try an event you've always heard about but never attended.

Part of finding a place that feels like home is discovering the people, traditions, and little experiences that make a city special. November has plenty of those waiting for you.
